Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that new immigration pilot programs for home care workers will launch on March 31, 2025. These new pilot programs are collectively referred to by IRCC as the “Canada Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot Programs.”
These pilot programs will replace the previous permanent residence programs for caregivers, which have expired.
Eligible home care workers will be able to obtain permanent residence upon arrival through these new procedures.
Who is eligible for these new procedures?
To be eligible for these enhanced pilot programs for home care workers, foreign nationals must:
Have official language proficiency equivalent to level 4 on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB);
Have the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma;
Have recent and relevant work experience*; and
Have a full-time job offer in the home care field. Since June 16, 2024, applicants to the former Home Care Worker Immigration Program only needed six months of qualifying work experience to obtain permanent residence.
IRCC has not yet announced further details or eligibility criteria.
